Sunday Coffee v13
Guys, it's almost July already! Canada Day is upon us and the season of upbeat music is almost halfway over. Soon we'll be tucking back into Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, and all the other sad white boy music that makes up our fall months (I'm actually getting in on this early with Eaux Claires next month).
What I'm trying to say is, enjoy this mix while it still suits your mood. I've scheduled this neatly so I can have a cabin weekend AND bring you a mix, so you can listen to this and imagine me not sitting next to my computer waiting for notifications on your appreciation. Imagine me instead getting high off my own supply, turning this stuff up somewhere outside Gimli.
What's in the mix, you ask? Hudson Mohawke! Ryderz is the one song I can immediately get into off his new album - maybe because it sounds like an Americanized twist on a Jamie xx b-side. We've got Ember Island and Papermind, with a delightfully chill cover and remix of the Justin Bieber / Diplo / Skrillex track your 14-year-old nephew can't get enough of.
The meat of the mix is the stunning Samuel Proffitt remix of "Just Saying", which somehow improves on Jamie xx by adding some deep house grooves and timely samples. A couple oldies, but personal favourites, from Holy Other and Lee Bannon get us into Four Tet's new "Morning Side", which doesn't shy away from *summer vibes, bro*. Finally, the Mat Zo track to rid you of any lingering depression should you have any, "The Sky" is as true to its title as you'd hope.
Enjoy and Happy Canada Day weekend, wherever you're spending it.
