Sunday Coffee v7
With just a few days left in March, I can only describe this month's music releases as overwhelming. Beyond the stellar albums from Kendrick, Sufjan Stevens and Courtney Barnett and continued listens of Father John Misty, Drake and Purity Ring, there's (thankfully) been some dance music as well. After two weeks away, I'm happy to bring a whole whack of it to you.
We start on Deadmau5 returning to mainstream production with the beautiful chord progression on Colleen D'Agostino's "Stay". His best track since "Ghosts 'n' Stuff" is anchored by a vocal turn that gets more desperate on each repetition - all adding to a long, impressive build. Following that is an Alex D rework of Ludovico Eunaldi's advertising-friendly piano and a rundown of this week's best rap releases from Earl Sweatshirt and Action Bronson.
Jamie xx's awesome "Gosh" and the deep house flourish of Agoria bridge into the final section, which includes new big room tracks from Andrew Bayer, Vanic (with vocals from Aquilo, who's still very, very good), and Skrillex & Diplo. Finally, because I can and because it's good, there's a modernized cover of Eagle-Eye Cherry's "Save Tonight" thrown in there, which hopefully doesn't blow up your corny meter.
