So, it's been a big year for music. How're you holding up? I'm doing my best, and this week I'm splitting attention between new albums from Courtney Barnett, Earl Sweatshirt, and the drops from Jamie xx.
The latter has been the best surprise, considering how much lofty ambition Jamie is throwing into the underground sound he's utilized over the last three years. The xx was so quiet and sparse - since their 2011 debut, Jamie has clearly had a more dance-able approach in mind. After a couple dud releases, tracks like "Loud Places" show that ambition is finally matching the quiet beauty of xx. It's easily one of the better songs of the year so far, and one worth sneaking in between Kendrick replays.
