It's been a minute. Last weekend, I took some photos for MTC Winnipeg, who were promoting their new play "Alice Through The Looking-Glass" as part of Culture Days at the Forks. Here are those photos (click to view full-size).
I was life to the fullest this weekend, but I put together a mix mid-week anticipating a quiet Sunday in the apartment. This one kicks off with a couple immaculate remixes that I've been hitting repeat on. Nicolas Jaar's 12-minute "remix" of Florence and The Machine's powerful "What Kind of Man" is an odyssey in itself, as is usually the case for the Darkside collaborator. Jaar still holds the title for most ingenuous BBC Essential Mix, which he released back in 2012, and he's carried that minimalist, genre-bending brand of electronic forward into sparing, but strong releases.
Following that up is the Catching Flies remix of Kwabs' Perfect Ruin, a newcomer track this week that turns Kwabs' smooth vocal into a haunting pierce through foggy production. The mix closes with a double dose of Jason Ross, who's working better big house trance than anyone at the moment with a world-influenced sound that's punishingly big pre-drop, and destructive at its climax.
Oh, and there's some Mario in here as well, because obviously there is.
